Microblading - Frequently Asked Questions
Your eyes are the most important feature on your face – and your eyebrows help to showcase them. Brows define and can transform your whole face.
Is microblading recommended for all skin types?
Yes - all ethnicities and skin types can undergo microblading.
Why should I have microblading?
Pencils and gels can work very well to shape your brows – but microblading gives you a more semi-permanent option.
Does microblading look natural?
Microblading involves filling in gaps and defining over-plucked brows – it is an extremely natural looking treatment. Fine hair-like lines are made on your brow area that look exactly like your natural brow hairs. You can fill in gaps and define your brows into an arched, rounded, feathered, straight or bold look. This is a perfectly natural-looking procedure – don’t be alarmed by what you see in the media!
How long does microblading take?
Professional microblading takes about two hours from start to finish. The first hour is spent measuring your face and drawing the customised shape that you want. The second hour is spent shaping the brow. Be wary of companies offering microblading in one hour, or a “lunch-time special” – you’re at risk of getting a botched result from a rushed procedure!
What happens during microblading?
First, a topical cream is applied to the area. Then, your face will be measured to determine your unique Golden Ratio, and your ideal brow shape will be discussed with you - whether it’s an arched, rounded, feathered, straight or bold style.
Once everything is finalised, your brows are sketched onto your face, and meticulously-applied fine hair-like strokes are made with a special tool and pigment. These mimic the natural hair of your brows, and look perfectly natural.
We recommend a light touch-up of your brows after eight weeks of healing, to ensure the proper level of pigmentation.
Is microblading painful?
Everyone experiences pain differently, but most people describe the sensation of microblading as nothing stronger than mild discomfort. We apply soothing cream during the preparation process, and anaesthetic gel during the procedure itself. Remember, this is NOT a tattooing procedure – only very fine scratches are made, not thick solid lines!
How long does microblading last?
The durability and colour intensity of your “new” brows will depend on your skin type, age, and environmental conditions.
The true colour of your microblading will be clear after 1 month. The initial colour will fade 30 to 40%.
Your brows should last up to three years before fading completely, but if you want to maintain their perfect shape and colour, a yearly touch-up is recommended.
What should I NOT do before getting microblading?
You should not drink coffee, alcohol or energy drinks on the day of your appointment.
You should not take Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E or Ibuprofen for 24 hours before your appointment.
You should not have intense sun exposure for 3 days before your appointment.
You should not take Retinol or Omega 3 (fish oil) for a week before your appointment.
What is the best aftercare for microblading?
After your treatment, you should avoid moisture on the area for one to two weeks. This means no sweaty workouts or washing your face with water.
Can microblading be reversed?
Microblading is not permanent, so it can be reversed. There are saline solutions that can hasten the fading effect, or you can opt for laser tattoo removal. However, rest assured that you’ll be thrilled with your brows, and you’ll want to keep them touched up forever!
